The sport, Track and Field has been around since the early B.C. times. Tracks people have used have been made out of dirt, grass, sand, cinder, and synthetic polyurethane. Polyurethanes have been around since the 1930’s. They were invented by Dr. Otto Baye. Polyurethanes are non hazardous, but the process creating them can be. Isocyanates and polyols emit harmful vapours. Polyurethane can be recycled. The cost of a track can be anywhere from $400 000-1.5 million. They do need to be replaced every so often, depending how they hold up against the weather. These tracks are used because they are better for athletes, create better running times, and can be used in any weather. Although there has been some changes to the track over time since the early B.C. age, the design has always stayed the same. Only the materials have changed.
